"KENNY"

Kenneth Brooks

Mr. Main Character with no plot armor. It's kinda sad, really. Throughout a bunch of normal high school kids, you always find one who "doesn't want to talk about it" and then you'll say "about what?" and get no response.

They call him brooks — but I can't specify who. Just know that they do. That's his last name. Kenneth Buck-Williams Brooks, but you can just call him Kenny. Please call him Kenny. He cringes whenever the name "Kenneth" is sang on the speakers because then everyone cocks their heads and say "who's Kenneth?"

He was born January 15, 1989, and he's a 17-year-old senior at Jefferson High School. It's surprising he hasn't dropped out honestly. Nobody expected him to make it this far, not even himself.

He's 5'9" but hunches like he's 5'7" and is 120 lbs on a good day. 120 lbs. He's scrawny and wiry, lean only because of his hyperactivity and anxious pacing. He always appears undernourished, with visible ribs, collarbones, and shoulder blades. Kenny's arms and legs are sinewy, but his frame lacks healthy weight or strength. Then his posture shifts between slouched, withdrawn stillness and jittery, restless movement.

He's like, extremely pale. So pale he's occasionally mottled blue-and-pink; with a faintly translucent hue. He'll lie about it but his skin shows the effects of poor nutrition, drug use, and self-harm: faded and fresh scars, especially on forearms, wrists, hands, collarbones, and thighs; scattered bruises, acne scarring, and track marks or skin picking on accessible areas. Kenny's fingertips fade into a blush-red and nicotine yellow with his knuckles the same blush-red colorz He's got damaged knuckles thay are scabbed and often bruised. He often has healing scrapes or red marks from impulsive behavior or accidents, or that's what he'd say at least. Kenny has hollow cheeks, prominent cheekbones, and a narrow jaw that emphasize the gauntness of face. He has sparse facial hair from genetics that form in patches along his upper lip and jawline but never fill out. His nose is noticeably crooked from repeated breaks and damage, whether it's from abuse, overdose-induced collapses, passing out, etc. It's often red-stained. He'll say he's just suseptible to bloody noses, but everyone knows it's from the cocaine. Surprisingly, Kenny has long, dark lashes that contrast his pale eyes. It almost makes him look like his mother.

His hair is an unkempt dirty blond and cut shaggy with uneven tufts hanging in his face, over his ears, and down his neck. Kenny's often greasy and his hair is more-often-than-not matted at the roots or tangled from lack of grooming. He trims it occasionally with rusky scissors, gaining uneven results. If you ask, he'll just say "money."

At least his eyes are cool. They're pale violet-purple due to ocular albinism caused by GPR143 mutation. The lack of melanin causes light to reflect off the blood vessels in the iris. But he suffers from photophobia (light sensitivity, often squints or avoids eye contact), mild nystagmus (involuntary, subtle side-to-side pupil movements), visual impairment (difficulty reading signs or focusing on distant objects), and his eyes often appear glassy or unfocused. This is emphasized during drug crashes or dissociation.

He dresses the way you'd expect him: oversized black or dark-toned T-shirts, often band tees or tattered old graphic shirts, stretched or fraying at the sleeves and collar, usually layered with worn hoodies, especially in colder weather, even if it's too hot. Kenny wears the same pair of black jeans or cargo pants with frayed hems and safety pins that are often worn low on the hips. Nothing he wears is ever new. All his sneakers or boots are scuffed with missing laces replaced with string or wire. He may wear rubber bracelets/wrist bands.
